Pangea Network thanks the students at Kempner High School
The Pangea Network would like to thank the students at Kempner High School for their support of the women in our Kibera Co-operative. The Women’s Crusade
IN THE 19TH CENTURY, the paramount moral challenge was slavery. In the 20th century, it was totalitarianism. In this century, it is the brutality inflicted on so many women and girls around the globe: sex trafficking, acid attacks, bride burnings and mass rape.
Kenya school battles huge drought
Ask most students what they would like to do during the school holidays and it is highly likely that the response "More school, please" would be at the bottom of the list.
Not in Kenya, however. The country is in the middle of a drought and there are food shortages, so the offer of a free school meal is, for some, too good to pass up.
"Nowadays there is no rain and that is causing us a lot of problems," says 15-year-old Hanan Sirat.
UN alarm at Palestinian poverty
In a courtyard off a back street in Gaza City, sunlight streams through the leaves of a pair of olive trees and children play beneath their branches.

Kenya's Post-Election Violence Kills Hundreds

Events
The Pangea Network will be promoted in the new Aveda store in Willowbrook Mall from May 9th through 31st.
The event will display beadwork by women from the Kibera cooperative in Nairobi, Kenya, including Pangea's 2011 Signature Necklace.
Several of the women in the Kibera cooperative have been trained by a fellow participant in the art of beadwork, and have learned to make beautiful beaded bracelets, necklaces, and bowls. Over the past five years, we have proudly watched many of these women successfully start and grow sustainable businesses with their handicrafts. Pangea ensures that the women earn fair trade wages for their work and helps bring their beautiful pieces to new markets.
The 2011 Signature Necklaces are crafted from delicate multi-strand bead work, and are uniquely designed and perfected for this year only.
By purchasing a necklace, you are providing an opportunity for women living in extreme poverty to lift themselves up by the work of their own hands.
Additionally, Aveda will be offering hand treatments and a free sample to everyone who supports The Pangea Network during the month of May.
